Job Summary
The responsibility of this position is to manage and maintain accurate financial records for the church. This includes all accounting functions such as payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, budgets, bank reconciliations, financial reporting, and all other financially related items as requested. It is the responsibility of this position to work with the church leadership to ensure that the financial transactions of the church are performed at the highest level of financial stewardship and comply with the church’s financial policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The duties listed below are examples of the variety and general nature of those performed by this position. These duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Enter all accounting transactions pertaining to the church into QuickBooks and church management software including deposits, vendor invoices, disbursement of funds via checks and transfers, pledges, and any other transactions affecting the official accounting records.
- Respond to requests for donation and pledge information from donors.
- Submit payroll, including posting into QuickBooks. Distribute payroll, maintain required payroll records including Sick and Vacation Accruals.
- Reconcile bank and investment accounts monthly.
- Prepare monthly financial statements as requested.
- Exhibit cooperation and confidentiality in all interactions.
- Meet deadline requirements of work projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience
Associate’s degree in accounting or a related field or minimum of 3 years general bookkeeping experience. Experience in non-profit fund accounting a plus. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections. Strong ability in the use of QuickBooks and Excel is required. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and church management software is preferred. Must have the ability to organize, work with great accuracy, and meet deadlines. Must demonstrate effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to read, write and understand English. Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives. Requires the ability to read and comprehend a variety of informational documentation, procedures and correspondence. Requires the ability to write correspondence with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar. Must be able to communicate effectively using electronic media and in written and verbal forms.
REASONING ABILITY: Requires the ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out general written or oral instructions. Must be able to multi-task, prioritize work and pay attention to detail. Requires good analytical and quantitative skills, and the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
MANUAL DEXTERITY: Must have average levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Must be able to efficiently use a computer.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be physically able to operate computers, copy machines, and other general office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, use a keyboard, handle books and papers; and reach with hands and arms. Employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Must be able to move, lift or carry objects or materials up to 10 pounds. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral visions, distance vision, and color vision for extensive reading and interpretation of reports and documents.
PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Must have the ability to talk (expressing and/or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words) and hear (perceiving sounds of nature by ear).
