Education at Clairemont
Lutheran

Clairemont Lutheran Church is
proud to participate in many educational opportunities for those of all
ages. This page offers the opportunity to discover for yourself all
the wonderful chances to grow through education that await you here at
Clairemont Lutheran Church.
Sunday School.
Children and youth ages pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade are invited
to attend Sunday School at Clairemont Lutheran Church. Our excellent
staff of teachers and assistants are committed to educating and nurturing
the faith of the youngest members of our congregational family.
Individual classes meet at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings during the regular
school year with a combined group meeting during the summer months.
We are pleased to offer the Growing
in Christ curriculum.
Children's Messages.
Sundays at the 10:15 worship service the children are invited forward to
receive a special message from a member of the ministry staff at
Clairemont Lutheran. The Children's Message weaves the lessons from
the day that are read in worship as well as central themes taught during
Sunday School prior to the worship service. These interactive
messages are popular with many who gather for worship each week.
Vacation Bible School.
The first week in August is Vacation Bible School week. In the past
Clairemont has hired staff from Lutheran Retreats, Camps and Conferences
to host the day camp.
Alleluia Choir.
In addition to singing occasionally at worship, the Alleluia Choir, under
the direction of Mary Hoogterp, also gathers on Thursday evenings for
fellowship and education. Participation is open to children
pre-confirmation aged and younger.
First Communion.
Children age 10 and older are invited to participate in a one-day workshop
in preparation for Holy Communion. The pastors traditionally lead
these lessons and first communion is celebrated soon thereafter.
Confirmation.
For those in seventh grade or higher, confirmation meets weekly on Sunday
evenings for a more advanced look at Scripture and the doctrines and
customs of our church family. The pastors generally teach these
courses which follow the curriculum Here
We Stand. In addition to classroom time, students are encouraged
to complete worship notes as well as serve in worship through the acolyte
ministry. Confirmation classes are sometimes combined with the
Senior High Youth Group for social gatherings and excursions.
Confirmation class concludes in the ninth grade with the Affirmation of
Holy Baptism/ Rite of Confirmation, generally celebrated at the Feast of
the Reformation in late October.
Women's Bible Study. The
Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (W-ELCA) meet monthly
to study Scripture and share in fellowship. Five circles meet
monthly, led by members of each circle. The study theme for early
2008 are the teachings of Christ through the Beatitudes.
Spanish Language Bible Study.
Those who speak Spanish are invited to attend the Spanish Language Bible
Study on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m.
New Member Class. Gathering
every few months, the new member class offers a glimpse at full
involvement in the life of the congregation. Participants discuss
the sacraments and other parts of our worship service, as well as hear
about opportunities throughout the congregation for fellowship, service
and worship. If you are interested in attending one of these
classes, please contact one of the pastors in the church office.
Literacy Center. This
outreach of the Laubach Literacy Center is hosted by Clairemont Lutheran
Church and gathers frequently for English language tutoring.
Adult Education Forums.
Generally Adult Education Forums meet during the education hour on Sunday
mornings at 9:15. Recent topics have included lectionary studies,
"Why Worship Matters" series, the ELCA's Studies on Human
Sexuality and forums on the Statement of Welcome. Check our calendar
for regular announcements about Adult Education Forums happening on Sunday
mornings.
